[Welcome Chloe Jacobs, Author Of Greta And The Goblin King! Guest Post and Giveaway]

Today Chloe Jacobs is taking over the blog and sharing some pretty creepy places with us.  She wrote this book called Greta and the Goblin King, which has a ton of things that I love in it.  Fairytale retellings (including Labyrinth and Hansel and Gretal) a kick ass lead and creepy creatures.  Sounds like the perfect thing to get us all in the Halloween mood, if you ask me!  So, you wanna know about the book?  Here are the details...

While trying to save her brother from a witch’s fire four years ago, Greta was thrown in herself, falling through a portal to Mylena, a dangerous world where humans are the enemy and every ogre, ghoul, and goblin has a dark side that comes out with the eclipse.

To survive, Greta has hidden her humanity and taken the job of bounty hunter—and she’s good at what she does. So good, she’s caught the attention of Mylena’s young goblin king, the darkly enticing Isaac, who invades her dreams and undermines her will to escape.

But Greta’s not the only one looking to get out of Mylena. An ancient evil knows she’s the key to opening the portal, and with the next eclipse mere days away, every bloodthirsty creature in the realm is after her—including Isaac. If Greta fails, she and the lost boys of Mylena will die. If she succeeds, no world will be safe from what follows her back...

And Now I'll Hand Things Over To Chloe!

So, I know this bounty hunter. She’s pretty bad ass and she’s got a habit of getting stuck in some crazy, unfortunate places.

Her name is Greta, and currently she’s cooling her heels in a twisted little world of ice and snow and monsters called Mylena.

After four years there, trekking across the hardest and most brutal terrain to be found in any world, you’d think that Greta wouldn’t be afraid of anything or any place, right?

Well…

FIVE PLACES GRETA WOULDN’T BE CAUGHT DEAD IN

 5.  Waverly Hills Sanitorium – Greta’s not a big believer in ghosts, but she’s seen too many things to completely discount the possibility that they exist, and apparently this place saw tens of thousands of deaths while in operation as a medical facility. Some people say that satanic rituals have taken place there. I don’t know about you, but a haunted insane asylum in any world would be on the top of my list of places to avoid.

4.  That underground research facility from Resident Evil – Like Greta, Alice was totally kick ass, but I’m sure she never wanted to be stuck down there with those undead zombie hive freaks. Turn and run the other way if you can!

3.  Island of the Dolls, New Mexico – Have you heard of this place? There’s nothing like coming across an island covered in doll parts hanging from the trees. Their severed limbs, decapitated heads, and roll-back eyes are everywhere, and they would only remind Greta of all the children who have been taken by the Lamia (a witch in Mylena who hunts children to eat them). This place would freak her out completely. The dolls all seem to be watching, waiting, and at night they’re even creepier. The story is that the island’s only inhabitant found the body of a dead girl and a floating doll, so he hung the doll in a tree to appease her spirit. But one doll became hundreds, and they are all still there.

2.  Frankenstein’s Castle – Imagine an entire village worth of people racing toward you with pitch forks and burning torches, determined to end you just because you’re different and they’re scared of what they don’t understand. This is how Greta feels every day in Mylena. Luckily, she just hasn’t gotten herself trapped in that castle yet with no way out.

1.  Any place that smells like gingerbread – A delicious house made of candy set against a backdrop of a tranquil forest retreat? A little cave cut out of the rock in a beautiful forest? Neither of these may seem like anyone else’s worst nightmare, but Greta lost everything when she was lured into the woods by the sweet, delicious scent of gingerbread and found herself face to face with a child-eating witch who hurled her into a raging bonfire that dumped her into an alternate reality from which there is no escape. Now her life is in danger every minute. Every single creature transforms into a monster under the full moon and will rip her to shreds without a thought…

You’d probably feel the same way.

So, what are the scariest places you can think of? Real or imagined?

And thank you!!  I’m so honoured to be invited as a guest on Christianna’s blog! I LOVE it here and wish I could stay forever!

Great post! Those are some terrifying places, I have to say. I think I'm mostly afraid of being trapped, so anyplace underground, like a subway, or in a building with lots of basements levels, that just would not be good for me:) Thanks for the giveaway!

I loved Greta and the Goblin King too Christianna, so I was so happy to read this wonderful post! I don't think I want to be caught up in any of those places that Chloe mentioned, they sound super scary and of course I know I wouldn't survive! Great post ladies! :)

Tammy, closed-in places are hard for me too. I'm the worst with DARK places. As long as there's a sliver of light I'm ok, but all dark where I can't even see in front of my face FREAKS ME OUT
