Jess here! I usually blog over at Read My Breath Away, but Christianna has taken over my blog for the day to talk about her fave horror movies! So in return, I'm excited to be here today to chat about scary movies! Though, in my case, they're not that scary. Confession time: I'm a huge wimp. Huge. I do not do scary. I watched Signs (which totally isn't even scary) in class in middle school and I couldn't look at a dark tv for weeks. It's bad.
So, since I have nothing to contribute to the horror discussion, I thought I'd go with something much tamer.
I present to you, the movies (or scenes in movies) that scared me as a kid. Warning, some of these are going to make me look super pathetic. I am aware. I was a scaredy-cat kid, okay?
The Creepy:
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (the 1971 version).

The Little Mermaid
I so did not see this scene coming. I wanted mermaids. Pretty, happy, loving mermaids. But then we got to this scene and I was scarred:
Terrifying.
This one should be pretty self-explanatory, especially for a child who was afraid of the dark. Look at the pure terror on her face!

Hahaha this post is hilarious but also 100% true. These scenes are pretty terrifying, especially for a kid. To this day I am afraid of more than I care to admit, and it probably all started with movies and shows like these. Another horrifying show to add to this list is Courage the Cowardly Dog. If you are not familiar with it - every episode is some iteration of grandma being threatened by aliens/giant spiders/crazed hillbillies, while the grandpa turns evil or dies and the dog, as cowardly as he is, has to figure out how to save grandma. I still haven't recovered from the episodes I saw. Anyway, great post :D You are not alone, nor pathetic (or we both are!)
It's true, when I look back so many of the things I loved as a kid are down right creepy!
My son asked for the updated version of WW, Charlie & The Chocolate Factory. It is pretty hilarious, but still has that creep factor (I mean, it IS directed by Tim Burton).
Wow, our childhood movies were kind of disturbing!!
I remember loving The Brave Little Toaster, but seem to have blocked any memories of that air conditioner. Must have been too scary!
