[Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Thought I'd Like More/Less Than I Did]

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly linkup hosted by The Broke And The Bookish!

This week we are asked what would seem to be a simple question.  What books did we like less or more than we thought we were going to.  Gah, there is just something about expecting greatness out of a book that when it doesn't deliver it's very sad.  And sometimes you read a book that you don't have any preconceived thoughts about and it blows you away.  So, I thought I'd give you 5 of each.  Keep things interesting and fresh around here!

5 Books That I Liked Less Than I Thought I Would:

"Obsidian" by Jennifer L. Armentrout: I have to admit that I didn't even finish this one.  At some point I might, but the whole time I just kept thinking "this is the book version of Roswell!"  Don't get me wrong, I love Roswell, but this book wasn't cutting it.

"The Disenchantments" by Nina LaCour: I wanted to love this book, but I didn't.  I just couldn't believe that the lead character was actually a dude and it killed the book for me.

"Splintered" by A.G. Howard: I actually really really like this book!  I just didn't end up loving it and I wanted to love it, but it's still really good (read it)!

"Wicked" by Gregory Maguire: All I can say is "how the hell did they manage to make such a beautiful and inspiring musical out of this book?"  It's a huge testament to the writing skills of the writers of the musical, but not such good news for the book.

"The Catcher in the Rye" by J.D. Salinger: This is another one that I wanted to like and even though I do really like the writing, I don't like Holden or the story.

So now that I've ripped a few of the books that you possibly love apart (sorry) I'll show you a few that I really fell in love with!

5 Books That I Liked More Than I Thought I Would:

"The Ward" by Jordana Frankel: I didn't know what to expect when I went into this one, but I was blown away!  It was so creative and even though I have a fear of aquariums I didn't have a fear of this book that primarily took place underwater...

"The Sweetest Dark" by Shana Abe: I loved the history and the magic in this one!  It was so creative, but above all I loved the ending.  It left me shocked and wanting to give out high fives!

"Losing It" by Cora Carmack: Losing It is not my type of book, but for some reason I really wanted to read it and I'm so glad that I did!  It's so funny and sweet and awesome!

"Cinder" by Marissa Meyer: Something was holding me back from reading this one.  I didn't know how the premise of the book would work, but once I started it I couldn't put it down and it's one of my favorites!

"Sanctum" by Sarah Fine: This was another one that I went into wondering what would happen when I opened the pages, but I ended up falling in love with this gritty, dark story!  It's got as much heart as it has pain and who doesn't love that?!

Well there's my list!  What's on yours?  I wanna know.  Leave your link below or tell me in the comments!

So glad to hear you thought The Ward was good. I'm planning to try and pick that one up at BEA because it sounds good (and that cover - GORGEOUS!).

I just read Losing It about a week ago and loved it too. Garrick is so yummy!

Cinder! Yes! I hadn't expected to love that one because of the addition of Sci Fi but I ended up loving it so hard! I really need to get on reading Losing It! I need more smexy times in my life.

I'm planning to read The Sweetest Dark in the next month or two. Your comment makes me want to read it all the more.

The Catcher in the Rye is also on my list. Holden is one my least favourite protagonists ever!

I haven't read too many of these, actually. I did like Cinder a lot, though; it was different than I expected.

Not good to hear about Obsidian, I need a good alien book for my paranormal reading challenge! I have Splintered from the library, I just haven't started it yet but even though you don't love it at least its good :)

I hated Catcher in the Rye, It was recommended to me by a previous teacher of mine and I hated it with such a passion. I still need to read Cinder but I've heard so much great stuff about it!

I was pleasantly surprised by Sanctum as well! I think we are both a little obsessed with Malachi *sigh*. I have heard mixed reviews about Splintered so I will still read it but don't have unrealistic expectations!

I agree about Cinder. I never thought it would end up in my list of favorite books! I discovered that I sometimes like Sci-fi elements after all.

Splintered was a disappointment to me too it seemed like everyone who read it before me loved it. Reviews seem to have evened out for it now though. Glad you liked The Ward more than me >.< (I think I said that in your review too lol) and I really want to read Losing It I'm so happy they changed the cover the original one the guy looked like he was 12 it wasn't very apealling to me lol

I was also not a fan of Wicked. It was one of the few books where I thought the play/movie surpasses it!

I'm still a fan of Catcher in the Rye, though!
