[Top Ten Tuesday: Classics That I Want To Read]

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly linkup hosted by The Broke And The Bookish!

I love classic novels. They are like taking a trip into history. Reading them is so different than reading historical fiction. Historical fiction plays at making the past and our future meet, where classic novels transport you into the time itself. The authors were living in the world that we're reading about and one day the "contemporary novels" we read will have the same effect on future generations. It's pretty awesome when you look at it. So now I'll give you the list of classic novels that I want to get to sometime soon...

"I Capture the Castle" by Dodie Smith
"The Tenant of Wildfell Hall" by Anne Bronte
"Calico Palace" by Gwen Bristow
"Lolita" by Vladimir Nabokov
"Mansfield Park" by Jane Austen
"Rebecca" by Daphne Du Maurier
"The Phantom of the Opera" by Gaston Leroux
"The Scarlet Letter" by Nathaniel Hawthorne
"This Side of Paradise" by F. Scott Fitzgerald
"Wuthering Heights" by Emily Bronte

Well there's my list!  What's on yours?  I wanna know.  Leave your link below or tell me in the comments!

P.S. since this week is my birthday week I'm doing twitter giveaways for some of my favorite books. Twitter handle @BlueBowGrl

I really liked Capture the Castle…definitely a good read. I also am a fan of Scarlet Letter. For me, Wuthering Heights was just ok. I hope you get to read some good classics soon and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Rebecca is SO stinking good, definitely one of my all-time faves. Wuthering Heights is interesting - for me, it was the first time I read a novel with (in my opinion) unlikable lead characters, so I was a bit lost looking for someone to root for. But it taught me that some stories are more about observing rather than relating. I liked it, but more than anything I remember it as a bit of a turning point for me as a reader. If that makes sense? I haven't read Anne yet so The Tenant of Wildfell Hall is on my to-read list, too - as are I Capture the Castle and Phantom of the Opera, actually. And Lolita! I've heard so many things about that book, I'm crazy curious.

Oh, and I think Mansfield is really underrated, it's maybe less grandly romantic but it has some of my favorite writing from Jane. :) Happy birthda week!!!

The Phantom of the Opera is so good! If you've only seen the movie, you're definitely missing a large part of the story.

I really enjoyed both "Phantom of the Opera" and "Wuthering Heights". I found Wuthering Heights much more enjoyable if you thought of it as a soap opera. As in, the characters are over the top caricatures. I had to read "The Scarlet Letter" in 10th grade and I couldn't stand it.

Here are a few classics I recommend:
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

Amazing list! So many here that I really need to read! I've heard that Rebecca is amazing and I had no idea until today that The Phantom of the Opera was a book. Seriously, I love the story so definitely checking that one out now! I've heard great stuff about I Capture the Castle too and it's been on my wishlist for a while now. After reading The Great Gatsby and loving it I'm really interested to read more Fitzgerald. Great list!

Rebecca is a great book, a real page-turner. It was actually my favorite out of all the books I read last year.

The main characters in Wuthering Heights are not one bit likeable, but that doesn't mean it is a bad book, quite the contrary, it makes for a really interesting read.

I actually started THE SCARLET LETTER once and was liking it, but never finished. And I liked WUTHERING HEIGHTS! Thanks for stopping by!

I read Phantom of the Opera before. It was so last year in 2012-13 when I was in 11th grade for outside reading. But I already got Wuthering Heights and still am not sure what to read whether for outside reading or academic funsies over break. Thanks for your list of classics.
