My pick this week is...
"Egg and Spoon"
Author: Gregory Maguire
Release Date: September 9th, 2014

Summary:
A fantasy set in Tsarist Russia.
Elena Rudina lives in the impoverished Russian countryside. Her father has been dead for years. One of her brothers has been conscripted into the Tsar’s army, the other taken as a servant in the house of the local landowner. Her mother is dying, slowly, in their tiny cabin. And there is no food. But then a train arrives in the village, a train carrying untold wealth, a cornucopia of food, and a noble family destined to visit the Tsar in Saint Petersburg — a family that includes Ekaterina, a girl of Elena’s age. When the two girls’ lives collide, an adventure is set in motion, an escapade that includes mistaken identity, a monk locked in a tower, a prince traveling incognito, and — in a starring role only Gregory Maguire could have conjured — Baba Yaga, witch of Russian folklore, in her ambulatory house perched on chicken legs.

What? A new Gregory Maguire fairytale?! It's been years and I just adore his book "Confessions of an Ugly Step Sister". Sure some of his other novels are a little on the weird side, but I've read most of them. I couldn't get threw Wicked or it's following books, but I think this one will be wonderful and I'm a huge fan of his weird writing style. We shall have to see what his YA writing is like. I haven't experienced it yet...

This is such an awesome choice! I LOVE Maguire and I'm thrilled that he's got a new book coming out. Great pick! Thanks for visiting my WOW:-)
I quite enjoyed Wicked (although it took me ages to get through it), but couldn't stand the Ebeneezer Scrooge book--I can't remember what that one was called. This sounds pretty interesting. I'm very curious about the Baba Yaga aspect. Great pick!
I haven't read that many set in Russia anyway, which is why I want to read Tsarina. But, I've read a few with Baba Yaga though, which is interesting (though, I can never take the name seriously, haha.)
Yesssss I am so excited for a new Gregory Maguire! And in Russia, too? What an excellent pick. I can't wait for it!
As you know I went through all sorts of effort to get this at BEA. I can't wait to read it and I hope it is wonderful and then I hope that the wait for you to read it goes by quickly and that it is wonderful for you too :)
