[Top Ten Tuesday #11: Books That Deal With The Tough Stuff]

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly linkup hosted by The Broke And The Bookish!

Okay, I have to admit that I like the books about the tough stuff!  I love a fluffy fun book just as much as the next girl, but give me something gritty and raw and I'm sold on it.  There is just a feeling that you get after reading a book with a heavy subject matter.  It's an emotional journey.  So here are my favorites (as of now, cause I'm always reading new ones...)

These Are The Books That Will Make You Weep
(Or If Not, They Will At Least Make You Feel Something In Your Frozen Heart)

"Sanctum" by Sarah Fine:  This is one of my favorite books!  Most of the book takes place behind the suicide gates.  That's where a person goes after they kill themselves, but we see the whole thing through someone's eyes who shouldn't be there.  This one will stick with you for quite some time.

"If I Stay" by Gayle Forman:  This book is about a girl who looses everything and is having an out of body experience in a hospital as she is trying to decide whether to stay or go (as in die).  It's so sad and so beautiful and I just love it so much!

"Where She Went" by Gayle Forman:  It's the follow up to "If I Stay" and even though it's not quite as sad it still has that melancholy feeling to it.  Both of these made me tear up in public more than once.  I'm sure people all over Europe were wondering why I was such a sad girl.

"Girl, Interrupted" by Susanna Kaysen:  I found this one so interesting!  It's actually a memoir and it's really intense.  It's about a 18 year old girl dealing with mental illness in the 1960s.  It even has photo copies of her charts in it and I thought it was a wonderful read.

"Rouge" by Leigh Talbert Moore:  This book!  I just love this book so much.  It's historical NA fiction set in a cabaret in New Orleans.  It deals with everything, murder, prostitution, pimps and having to pick what you stand for!  Seriously read this one!

"The Perks of Being A Wallflower" by Stephen Chbosky:  This another one of those books that deals with a little bit of everything.  Identity crisis, bullying, sexual abuse and lots of other tough issues.  But Charlie and the gang have loads of personality and they are awesome!

"Tight Knit" by Allie Brennan:  It's got a girl fighting anxiety and a boy who's making all the wrong decisions.  Drug dealers, gangs and lots of tough drama take place in this one.

"The Virgin Suicides" by Jeffery Eugenides:  I have to admit that this one isn't one of my favorites, but I read it years ago and passages and the book have stuck with me since then.  Only a powerful book can do that.  Oh, and it's about what it sounds like it's about.  Only all the girls are sisters.

"The Devil's Arithmetic" by Jane Yolan:  This is a book that I have read over and over.  It's set in WW2 and tells one of the many stories about the Holocaust.  It's seriously heartbreaking, but totally worth the quick read that it is!

Well there's my list!  What's on yours?  I wanna know.  Leave your link below or tell me in the comments!
